Rogaining

Rogaining is the fantastic and fun sport of long distance cross-country navigation! Teams of two to five visit as many checkpoints as possible in the time period given to gain as many points as possible. The points gained at checkpoints depends on the route and its level of difficultly with teams navigating by map and compass on foot.

Although the events lasts a fixed amount of time, generally 6 to 24 hours, teams travel at their own pace and design their own checkpoint routes with the aim of designing a better optimal route to get more points than other teams.

Those with a competitive bent can try to nail the whole course, while those out for a fun day can aim for a more relaxed pace and reasonable distance.
